Local Democracy Agency Georgia implemented a project – “Racha-Lechkhumi and lower Svaneti Regional Development Initiative”. The aim of the project was to stimulate regional and local economies and to involve different stakeholders in the policy making process.
The activities planned within the project were divided into three main areas: 1.Promoting sustainable development of mountainous municipalities; 2. Citizens' awareness about their rights, functions and obligations of municipalities, sustainable local economic development (LED) initiatives and citizen participation instruments; 3. Strengthen cooperation between the public, private and civil sectors for local economic development.
The project implementation started in January 2020 and ended in June 2021.
The initiative was undertaken within the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) “Fostering Regional and Local Development-Phase 2” project, with the financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) and the Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure (MRDI).
